Mindbuck Media

Book Publicity Services

MindBuck Media is a full-service publicity and public relations company for authors, books, and publishers. We consider your book holistically, and then develop a targeted campaign to attract media, reviewers, and readers.

We have a high standard for the books and authors we choose to work with. For publicity campaigns, books must have a publisher with a distribution plan, they must be compelling, and they must be professionally edited and designed. We are happy to work with a diverse selection of publishing houses: small, medium, and large.

We prefer to start a campaign with a six-month lead time before release. Our minimum publicity campaign starts at 80 hours and $12,000, billed at $150/hour. On average, our authors select campaigns in the range of 100 to 150 hours. A cash advance against book sales can be a publishing company’s contribution toward the cost of a publicity campaign.

MindBuck Media is happy to work with authors and publishers to get the best publicity bang for the buck for the target market and media.

Television package: Includes television specific pitching and a guaranteed 3 to 4 placements (final number is sometimes more) plus media training: $5000

Would your organization benefit from a presentation outlining best practices in book publicity, author social media dos and don’ts, the low down on events and awards, and information on effective queries and submissions—essentially a to do list for authors at every stage of their career? Each talk is followed by a Q and A with your members, where they can ask us questions specific to their individual writing projects and goals. Veteran publicists Jessie Glenn and Deborah Jayne have presented hundreds of book talks and panels for organizations including UCLA, Columbia University, Reed College, Portland State University, Pacific University, AWP, PNBA, Literary Picnic Series, library associations, literary associations, and many others. We look forward to learning about your organization and scheduling a free presentation as part of our commitment to literary citizenship.

Who Needs a Book Publicist?

Basically, everyone who releases a book needs a book publicist. Many large publishers have internal publicists, but they don’t have the time and resources to focus on more than one or two of their highest grossing authors. Due to many things including the changing economics of the publishing world, publishing companies expect authors to contribute to publicity. Authors from small, medium and large publishers are expected to promote and interact with their readers. It can be tough, but a good publicist is a buffer and cushion.

Cash advances can be a publishing company’s contribution to publicity. MindBuck Media is happy to work with authors and publishers to get the best publicity bang for the buck for the target market and project. We work with many publishing companies: small, medium and large. We rarely work on self published books with a few notable exceptions.
